An important note for researchers -- Atkinson County, Georgia is a fair ly new County. It was not formed until 1917. Atkinson County was
formed primarily from Coffee County (county seat: Douglas) and also part ly from Clinch County (county seat: Homerville). The Atkinson County curre nt county seat is Pearson, GA (zip code 31642).
To date, I have found many of our MOORE ancestors living in the Willach oochee, COFFEE COUNTY, Georgia Census (until 1920, of course, then Atkins on County kicks in).
Also, I have a photocopy of Mr. Folks Huxford's original notes on th is family. He states that JOHN MOORE and 2nd wife MARY PETERSON had sev en daughters. I don't think that's possible since he died right after marr ying MARY PETERSON. This information is not in Volume I, therefore, sin ce Mr. Huxford was so very good at this, apparently it was not true abo ut the seven daughters. There are others that now say he had four daughte rs and then married MARY PETERSON after Mrs. MARGARET ELIZABETH JONES MOOR E's death.
I have noticed that there are discrepancy's in his date of birth and pl ace of birth with many researchers.

MOORE, JOHN 1775-1855 LOWNDES (County, Ge orgia)
John Moore was born in St. George's Parish, Georgia, in 1775, a son of
JOHN MOORE (Sr.) and his wife, WINNIE HARDEMAN MOORE. The elder Moore
was a soldier in the Revolutinary War (see page 423, Knight's Roster of
the Revolution). His maternal grandfather was THOMAS HARDEMAN. The
elder Moore was a native of North Carolina.
JOHN MOORE, the subject, married ELIZABETH JONES, born 1790 in
Georgia. They were married about 1808. To them were born seven children.
After living in Emanuel County (Georgia) for some years, JOHN MOORE
and family moved to Lowndes County about 1828, and settled near the
village of Alapaha (name changed to Milltown about 1853, and then to
Lakeland in 1920), in present Lanier County, GA. There he engaged in
farming and introduced the cultivation of sugar-cane in this section.
Sometime about 1842-1843, JOHN MOORE as the result of domestic
differences, left his wife and children and later went to Florida and
took up his residence in Duval County, Florida, where he is found in the
Clay Hill District (present Clay County, Florida) in 1840 and 1850
Censuses. There he married MARY PETERSON, born 1810 in Georgia and they
had four daughters. They were married April 13, 1854.
VINSON MOORE accompanied his father when he left Georgia and went to
Florida, but the other children remained here with their mother and
supported her until her death in 1850. She lived with her son JOHN
MOORE, III, her last years, and at the time of her death JOHN and family
were living in the northern part of the new County of Clinch (in present
day Atkinson County). She was buried at Antioch Church in present
Atkinson County, where her grave is marked and shows the dates "Born
1790. Died 1850."
The records of Union Church show that JOHN MOORE and his wife,
ELIZABETH, were baptized by Elder William A. Knight in 1840 into the
membership of Union Church. It appears they united with the church on a
profession of faith in a service held in the Moore home by Elder Knight,
and that he reported it to the church August 8, 1840. On April 8, 1843,
JOHN MOORE was expelled but his wife remained a member until her death.
