  • Note:
Daniel A. Malloy (b. unknown, spouse possibly Mary Green - unconfirmed) Im migrated from Scotland in 1783 or 1773 (unconfirmed date) with his broth er John and sister Barbara and her husband John McPhail (a distant cous in from John McPhail's line relates that family stories claim John Mall oy and John McPhail were the best of friends). Daniel settled with Barbar a, her husband and possibly John M. on what they called "McPhail's Plac e" near Lumberbridge, NC. After the Revolutionary War Daniel founded "Scot swood Farm" by buying 200 adjacent acres in 1792 for 40. This acreage w as originally a land grant from King George III to a Mary Green on 24 Ma y, 1773 and when Daniel purchased it in 1792 records show he paid the 40 to Mary Green's brother, James Green*. Over the next few years he purch ased additional adjacent acerages to raise Scotswood to a total size of 4 52 acres by 1798. Scotswood Farm is still held by the Malloy Family and t he original farmhouse is currently being occupied by his great great gre at grandaughter and husband.

*This is what makes Mary Green a candidate as Daniel's spouse. Possibly Da nny boy married into the family and had to buy out Mary's brother for h is share. The other possibility is that Mary died, her brother inherited t he place and Daniel had to buy it from him. It would help to know if 40 w as the going rate for 200 acres at the time or a cut rate price.
