  • Note:
    On 23 October 1642 Edward was wounded at the battle of Edgehill, but recovered. He was engaged in the defence of the town of Oxford in August 1643, and while in discharge of his duties contracted a fever which proved fatal.

    • Note: It is thought that Edward Holte met Elizabeth through his friendship with her brothers at Hart Hall (Hertford College), Oxford. However the match was so displeasing to his father, Sir Thomas Holte, that he threatened to disinherit his son, and was only prevented by the personal intervention of Charles I. Sir Thomas never became reconciled to the match. 6 3
