  • Note: She was baptised at St Giles's, Bletchingdon, Oxfordshire on 17 September 1693. Her Godparents were John Coghill and Mrs. Coghill (presumably her maternal grandparents), and Mrs. Knapp (her aunt Elizabeth, née Coghill). Her grave memorial states that Rebecca died at the age of 36. However calculating from the time of her baptism, she was 39. 3 2

    Rebecca died very soon after the birth of her daughter Leonora. From a stone slab, on the floor of the North aisle of St Peter and St Paul, Tonbridge:
    "REBECCA ye wife of WILLIAM AUSTEN Surgeon
    Daughter of SIR GEORGE HAMPSON Bart.
    Died Feby 6th 1732 Aged 36 years
    HAMPSON AUSTEN daughter of the said
    WILLIAM & REBECCA
    Born September ye 13th 1728
    Died July ye 10th 1730
    Also WILLIAM AUSTEN Surgeon
    Died Dec. 7 1737 Aged 36
    Also Susannah Austen relict of
    the above William Austen
    She died the 26 January 1768
    Aged 80 years"
