David Jackson Sr. was the elder brother of Gabriel Jackson Sr., 1765-1850. The two brothers moved into the Bright's Creek area at the same time. It is said they came from Virginia.

Gabriel Sr. is described as over 6 feet 6 inches tall. He farmed, did blacksmith work, owned a loom, and the family maintained a cottage industry for making cloth fabric. Gabriel Sr.'s wife was named Mary Jane. Gabriel also served in the Revolutionary War.

Both families grew up along the old "Mills Gap Road" near Coopers Gap, within sight of Cliffield Mountain. The homeplace was on Bright's Creek where it runs into Green River near Lake Lure, not far from today's Lake Adger.
Gabriel Jr. moved his family across Green River into Henderson County, near Point Lookout, in the early 1800s. Gabriel Sr. joined him in his later years, dying in Henderson County and buried at the Jackson Cemetery at Point Lookout.
David Sr. remained on the Polk County side of the river.
