    15 Mar 1998 e-mail from Robert M. Wilbanks IV:
Gardner was 19 years old in 1826 when he was a security on the guardianship bond for his minor siblings. This would indicate an 1807 birth date, which would seem logical related to recorded birth dates of some of the other children.

    E-mail from L.D. Pierce, citing Gail Hazelwood's book: 19 June 1999
Gardner Wilbanks moved to Rusk Co., TX from TN in 1839. He fought in the war which won Texas independence from Mexico and was given a land grant in Rusk Co. for his service. Gardner, his son Hiram Henry, and their families, moved to Johnson Co., TX before 1893.
David Wilbanks' 2 Apr 2002 biography proves that Gardner did not fight in the war of Texas independence.

Gardner Wilbanks (b. 15 March 1797) had a second wife he married when he was 77. He married Mary B. Goodwin on May 31, 1874. Mary was forty-one years younger than him. They are listed in the 1880 Census in Cleburne, Johnson Co., on E. Chambers Street in what is now the 200 block on the north side. between Chambers and Henderson.
Look at 1880 Census Johnson Co ED #79 page 10 line 11. It shows Gardner age 83 with no occupation and his wife Mary age 42 keeping house. She was born in Tenn and so were both her parents. She has two children from her previous marriage listed as Ada Goodwin (age 17) and Emmitt Goodwin (age 16). Emmitt is listed as a Farm laborer. Ada and Emmitt were born in Miss.
As some of you know, he died in Dec 1889. (NOTE: I've also seen 27 Dec. 1888.)
However, I don't think anyone knows where he is buried. Has anyone out there run across his grave?
