The information concerning the marriage of Joseph Pearce Jr is confusing. According to wills and deeds, the name of his wife is Celia Pitt. Two deeds list her name as Selah, which we can accept as being poor pronunciation or spelling for Celia. However, the only marriage bond in the public record for Joseph Pearce (in the military) names the bride as Elizabeth, and this bond (from North Carolina archives) was accompanied by a rather strange letter from J. W. Simmons, bondsmen.
