From the WorldConnect Database: "Sanford-Shulsen Family", b y Evelyn Beran:

"Jehu came with the Winthrop fleet, and was at Boston in 16 30. He settled in Roxbury, MA, and on 19 October 1630 reque sted admission as a freeman of Roxbury; he was sworn as a f reeman there 18 May 1631. Jehu and his wife were both membe rs of the Roxbury church. Jehu was a carpenter by trade.

In 1633 appointed by the Colonial Government to see to th e bridges between Boston and Roxbury.

1635/1636 he moved (with William Pynchon and others -- 7 fa milies in all) to Springfield (Agawam), then subject to th e Conn. Colony. This land was granted 15 June 1636 to Willi am Pynchon, Jehu1 Burr, Henry Smith and others. In 1637 h e was Collector of the rates at Agawam, and on 5 April 163 8 and 9 September 1641 he was Deputy for Agawam at the Gene ral Court at Hartford. He remained in Agawam about 7 or 8 y ears.

Jehu removed to Fairfield soon after 1641. On 25 October 16 44 the General Court at Hartford appointed him to collect m oney at "Uncowaue" (Fairfield) for the maintenance of schol ars at Cambridge. He was Deputy from Fairfield September 16 45 and April 1646. He remained at Fairfield until his death.

The name Jehu Burr appears in the records with some regular ity, but it is not always possible to tell which is Sr. an d which Jr. On 10 April 1645 and 5 June 1645 the General Co urt speaks of him specifically as Jehu Burr the elder, whic h suggests that his son was then of age.

Jehu may have married more than once. It is believed that h is son Jehu's mother was sister of John Cable Sr. -- John C able of Fairfield died in 1682 and in his will mentions hi s Kinsmen Jehu and John Burr. They may have been nephews o r cousins, on their mother's side.

Both Jacobus and Colket say that he died by 1654. Jacobus b elieved that he may have died even earlier, and the probat e of his will is not on record. There is, however, a deed d ated 17 February 1670/1671 when the younger Jehu recorde d a homelot adjoining his own homelot which he had possesse d more than 16 years; followed by entry dated 12 January 16 73/1674 -- a ratification of the purchase of this lot fro m brother John; followed by entry of the younger Jehu's ow n homelot "by his father's will Jehu dec'd."
