He worked for some time in a law office. One of his brothers became a lawyer. He taught school at a one room schoolhouse, Bay View School, on M88 near Church Road in Central Lake Township, Michigan in the 1890's. Bertha Anway was one of his students. In the 1960's I met a former student who said their private name for R.T. Edwards was Rotten Tater. After (and probably before) marriage he worked as a manager of a seed business in Traverse City and Cheboygan. After Bertha inherited her father's farm he ran the farm. He was a powerful man, 6'2" and strong. My father Percy (P.A) was himself quite strong, a farm boy and football player. Percy once said that at 18 years of age his father could pin him up against a wall with little effort. Shortly before his death, in great pain, Bertha tried to convince him to let her flag down the town doctor who was passing by. His one word answer was "NO." RTE
