Jones, a young lawyer who has risen rapidly, was born at Camden, Alabama, July 18, 1870. He resided there until he was fifteen years old, when he went to Cambridge, Mass., and prepared for college in the Latin School. For two years succeeding this he was in the employ of Houghton, Mifflin & Co., O.H. Houghton of that company being his uncle. He entered Vanderbilt University at Nashville, Tenn., in 1887, took the degree of A.B. in 1891 and the degree of L.L.B. in 1893. August 1, 1893, he came to Kansas City, and entered the law office of W.C. Scarritt. The firm of Scarritt, Griffith & Jones was organized Janeary 1, 1896. Mr. Jones was married December 27, 1894, to Miss Mattie Scarritt. They have three children, Elliott Scarritt, Russell Houghton, and Paul, aged seven, five, and two. Mr. Jones is a member of the Bar Association, and takes a lively interest in athletics."

      Text: marriage notice in the Kansas City Star of Dec 26, 1894, p. 6 (via "Jones - Scarritt -- The Ceremony to be Performed in a Church Built By the Bride's Father -- Elliott H. Jones and Miss Matilda M. Scarritt will be married at 1 o'clock tomorrow at Melrose Church at the corner of Windsor and Indiana avenues by Bishop Hendrix brother in law of the bride. At _?_ o'clock a reception will be given at the home of the bride's mother, Mrs. Ruth P. Scarritt, 3240 Norledge Place. The young couple will leave on an Eastern tour to-morrow evening. Miss Scarritt will be married in a church built by her father -- the late Nathan Scarritt -- out of his personal means and on land donated by him. She is a sister of Judge Edward L. Scarritt. Mr. Jones is an attorney. He is 24 years of age and a native of Alabama, but has for some time lived here and has been in business in matters in which William C. Scarritt, also a brother of the bride, is interested."
