      Text: Major Mervyn Pratt was badly wounded in the Boer War and ne vermarried. He lived permanently at *Enniscoe, leaving Cabr a vacant. *Hedid not marry.

      Major Mervyn Pratt died at Enniscoe (Mayo) in December 1950 *, andbequeathed Cabra estate to his nearest male relativ e , MervynSheppard,a Malayan Civil Servant. The burden of t axes together withthe cost of repairs to the Castle, and fa rm losses made it impossiblefor Mervyn Sheppard to live the re. By the end of the 1950s the Statepurchased the bulk o f the land for use as a public park and In 1964,the remaind er was reluctantly disposed of, 265 years after Cabra landf irst came into the possession of the Pratt family.
