William Walker Ball, commander of Curraghmore was paid th e same monthly wage as Captain Sedgwick of Juverna, that i s £10 per month. In addition he was paid 2.5% on freight. F or example in the first six months of 1847 his commission o n freight which earned a profit of £5,320 for Whites, was £ 133. His commission on the passenger trade to Quebec was th ree times higher at 7.5%. In June of 1847 from passage mone y for the Waterford to Quebec voyage of £642-2-0 Captain Ba ll received £48-3-0 in commission.
