      Text: John Ball, Jun., of Loughross, Co. Armagh, and Three Castle s, Co.Kilkenny, was born 1702, and educated at Carrickmacro ss School,entered Trin. Coll., Dublin, 1718, but does not a ppear in the list of graduates.
      He settled at Three Castles in Odogh Parish, Co. Kilkenny , and married Dorothy, second daughter of William Jackson , of Coleraine, and his wife, Elizabeth, daughter of Rober t Gorges, of Kilbrew, Co. Meath, by whom he had two daughte rs. She died Jan., 1760, and was buried at St.Mary's Church , Kilkenny. In 1730 John Ball was High Sheriff of the Co.Ar magh. In Pue's Occurrences for March 2, 1745, we read tható

      There are for sale, lands, a part of estate of John Ball, E sq. (at theThree Castles, Co. Kilkenny), in the barony of F ews, Co. Armagh, viz.,Tullyvallen, 2.,549 acres Plan. meas. , Tullynavall and Dromill 476 acres, and 577 acres of bog . 10 miles from Armagh, 10 from Dundalk,also more lands i n Ratoath, called Creekstown.

      Again, in Faulkner's Dublin Journal, Oct., 1748, we read th ató

      By the vigilance and activity of John. Ball, Esq., of Thre e Castles.there are lodged of Freny's gang 9 men and 2 wome n concerned in the robbery at Revd. Mr. Driscoll's, of Cias hacrow.

      In 1737 John Ball was High Sheriff of the Co. Kilkenny an d Capt. inthe Militia. He married, secondly, on 7th May, 17 60, Mrs. Margaret Rainsford, widow, of St. Ann's Parish, Du blin. He died Sept., 1764, atSouth. Frederick Str., Dublin , aged 62; his will was proved by his daughter, Dorothea Ma rgaret, wife of Richard Shenton.
