      Text: Sir Tristram Beresford, 1st Baronet (died 15 January 1673 ) was anIrish soldier and politician. He is ancestor of th e Marquesses ofWaterford, the Barons Decies and the Beresfo rd Baronets, of WilliamBeresford, 1st Viscount Beresford an d Charles Beresford, 1st BaronBeresford.

      He was the eldest son of Tristram Beresford, who originate d from Kentand had settled in Ireland, and his wife Susanna h Brooke.Beresfordentered the Irish House of Commons in 163 4, sitting for LondonderryCounty in this year.He represente d the constituency again from 1656until 1658 and stood succ essfully a third time in 1661, a seat he heldfor the next f ive years.Beresford was knighted in 1664 and was createda B aronet, of Coleraine, in the County of Londonderry on 5 Ma y of thefollowing year.

      He married firstly Anne Rowley, oldest daughter of John Row ley, andhad by her a son and two daughters. After her deat h Beresfordremarried Sarah Sackville.By his second wife h e had another three sonsand three daughters. Beresford die d on 18 January 1673 and was buriedin Coleraine five days l ater. He was succeeded in the baronetcy by hisson Randal.

      Text: Sir Tristram Beresford, of Coleraine, Knight, and first Bar onet, theeldest son, represented the county of Londonderr y in the parliament of1661 ; and King Charles II taking int o his princely consideration hisfaithful services and suffe rings, and being desirous to place upon himand his posterit y some mark of his royal favour, was pleased byprivy-seal , dated at Whitehall March 24th, l664, and by patent atDubl in May 5th, 1665, to create him a Baronet f He departed thi s lifeJanuary 15th, 1673, and 28th was buried at Coleraine , having married,first, Anne, eldest daughter of John Rowle y, of Castleroe in thecounty Of Derry, Esq. by his wife Mar y, daughter of Robert Gage, ofRandes in the county of North ampton, Esq. by whom he had an only sonRandal, and two daug hters, Mary; and Elizabeth, who died unmarried,and was buri ed at Coleraine.
