    The Late Christian Devries
    (Correspondence of the Baltimore Sun )
    Sykesville, Md. October 2
    The late Christian Devries, whose death has been announced at the age of 81 from paralysis, was a brother of the late William Devries, a successful Baltimore merchant. Mr. devries entered the paper-making business many years ago and conducted it successfully until a few years since when he removed to his farm. Since then he has been living a retired life, but not an inactive one. He leaves three children, viz. Cat. R.T. devries, of the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad, John O. Devries, a farmer and dairyman of this district and Mrs. Charles A. Warfield of Sykesville.
    Mr. devries was an active and prominent member of the M.E. Church and M.E. Church South for the past sixty years and was also a member of the Masonic fraternity. He was a man of strong will, kind, generous and greatly respected for his integrity. The internment was at the M.E. Church South, Frederick Avenue, this morning. It was one of the largest funerals ever witnessed in this section. The honorary pallbearers were Lt. J. Baker, Capt. Joshua Beasman, L.Bennett, O.P. Buckingham, Samuel Bennett, and J. McCoy. Active pallbearers: Capt, John W. Bennett, Capt. Wm P. Goreuch, David Peugh, John Deckerbough, Thomas A. Barnes, Julius D. Berrot.
