Notes for FRANCE SCOTT
Frances Scott, the daughter of Joseph Scott and Sarah Mayo, married Alexander Walker in Amelia
County 22 December (bond) 1757. Both she and her sister were "spinsters" in the marriage bonds.
Sureties were Samuel Jones and John Scott Jr. Frances was perhaps named for her grandmother,
Frances Gould [1726.1]. Alexander Walker was the son of Edmund Walker and his wife, Judith, of Raleigh Parish, Amelia County, Virginia. Alexander was the brother of Ann Walker who married William Clement Jr. . Another sister was Judith Walker who married Zachariah Tatum in Amelia County 21 December (bond) 1791.  Edmund's father was Alexander Walker of Prince George County. Alexander Walker's widow, Mary, married Henry Holdcraft by 1720. This was undoubtedly the Henry Holdcraft who had 95 acres in New Kent County in 1704. Edmund wrote his will on 8 November 1766. In it he lent to Alexander and Frances for life & quot; 500 acres in New Kent Co., Va. where my mother Mary Holdcraft lately lived and given to me by a deed d. Apr. 7, 1719, ackn. & rec. in New Kent (Va.) Court & amp; likewise by her will d. Aug 8, 1764."
In the will,
Edmund named two sons belonging to Frances and Alexander. In 1782 Amelia County listed Alex
Walker head of a household of eleven whites and two blacks, so perhaps there were other children.
Children of Alexander and Frances (Scott) Walker: Edmund Walker [430.2.1] was named for his paternal grandfather. He inherited the manor plantation and land called "The New Quarter" after the death of his parents. This was part of the New Kent property described in the will of his grandfather. Joseph Scott Walker [430.2.2] was named for his maternal grandfather. He inherited the remainder of the New Kent property described as the land from the main road to head of Brick Line Branch, down the branch to Main Swamp.
