Vernon Isabelle Gradon is certainly one of the more interesting and frustrating
individuals to research in this family. Her name is so unique I thought I
could locate her death and burial right away. But that is not how it turned
    out.

I found all of the right clues and records to find her, yet she continues to
    elude me!

I think Vernon married at least three times in the following order: Fred Irwin
Reynolds, Adam Rice Cooke and Harold H. Kovar.

As I look through the information I found about her I see enough to find her,
but I just cannot find her. So, at this time I am taking a break from the
    search.

One of the best records about her is the following:

Miss Vernon Isabelle Gradon entertained about 30 young people Halloween. The color scheme was yellow and black, intermingled with ferns and autumn leaves.  A white shrouded figure pointed the way upstairs, in silence.  In a gay peanut hunt, Jacob Letz and Cecil McFarland were the prizewinners. Following that was a progressive game of pumpkin seeds, William Sheehy winning the first prize and Miss Adele Garretson the consolation prize. The guests then learned their fortunes from candles, apples and palmistry. The Halloween fare of sweet apple elder, pumpkin pie and doughnuts was served. The favors were pumpkins with Mother Goose rhymes. The guests were: Miss Lida and Agnes Rice, Adele Garretson, Matie Billings, Irene Johnson, Nlta Brtggs, Edith and May Pheehy, Hazel Hardie, Sarah Minzinmie, Emma Batman and John Daly, Jacob Letz, Cecil McFarland Bert Cohn, Earl Shaver, Will Sheehy, Henry Hingley, Chester Gault, Pembroke Gault, Willis Van Atta, Herbert Van Wyngarden, George Hargis.

    Reynolds - Graydon
A pretty home wedding occurred Thursday, July 7, at the home of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Gradon, 472 Benton street, when Miss Vernon Isabella Gradon and Fred I. Reynolds, of Pacific Grove, Cal., were married.  Only relatives and immediate friends of the family were present. Mrs. Kathleen Lawler-Belcher sang "All for you."  The bride and groom were led to the bridal bower by the ring-bearer, little Florence Gradon, as Mendelssohn's Wedding March was rendered by, Miss Helen Wegman.  Rev. Dr. George Paddock, of the Hassalo Street Congregational Church, officiated. The bride, wore a white net gown, over silk, and carried a bouquet of bride roses. The bride' bouquet was caught by Miss Hazel Hardie.  The honeymoon will be spent at Southern California beaches. Mr. and Mrs. Reynolds will return to Portland early In September.

Capt. Carpenter accepts the award for best company in the 187th Airborne Battle Group from Col. Norman G. Reynolds (left), the battle group commander, 1957.In late summer 1957, the 187th Airborne convoyed to the Hohenfels training area northeast of Nuremberg for what was known at that time as the annual Army training test (ATT).  Our battle group commander, Col. Norman G. Reynolds, was a superb officer, the kind none of us wanted to let down. Pride in the 187th, as well as respect and admiration for Col. Reynolds, generated a strong sense of unit and individual urgency to complete the ATT with high scores.Col. Reynolds notified Arch that Army Chief of Staff (CSA) Gen. Maxwell D. Taylor, who happened to be visiting Europe at this time and had overheard someone mention a first-ever tactical helicopter assault in Germany, said he would like to observe the full-scale company-size airmobile operation.

Awarded for actions during the World War II
The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Lieutenant Colonel (Infantry) Norman G. Reynolds (ASN: 0-339136), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 2d Battalion, 242d Infantry Regiment, 42d Infantry Division, in action on 15 March 1945, near Bannstein, France. While attacking an enemy entrenched in well fortified positions, Colonel Reynolds exposed himself to intense artillery, mortar, and small arms fire. Personally leading his men over open terrain and across a stream, the first objective was taken against heavy odds. He then led the battalion in another attack upon a hill where the enemy also occupied prepared positions. After a fierce firefight, the objective was again taken with a minimum of losses. Colonel Reynolds' courage and leadership throughout the entire attack resulted in the taking of two strategically important enemy positions, thus paving the way for the successful advance of the regiment.
