2012nov from Tommy Lee Childers of Oregon - user633879 (at) aol.com
    -
I received a letter from Virginia this week asking if I would look in the 1860
census of Franklin County, Missouri for Childers.

I did so this evening and must report that James Childers and wife Susannah
Huffman were either hiding, the enumerator missed them, or they were not
physically present in Franklin County, Missouri in either 1860 or 1870, as
neither I nor the software could find them. I recall this situation from
previous research on this family. No criteria I could conjure worked to find
James or Susannah in either census. I tried outside of Franklin County,
Missouri but I doubt they lived elsewhere.

The GenWeb site for Franklin County, Missouri is not helpful and has many
broken links that could help. In the past I researched the web site
http://www.vienici.com for marriages in Franklin County, Missouri, but I see
now that this site no longer exists. I wonder what that group did with the
large amount of marriage information they hosted?

Tuck, I looked at the information you posted at
    http://wc.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=townsendthos&id=I2360
Is what exists there all that Virginia has?

I tracked James and Susannah's daughter Clarissa Jane Childers and her husband
Clayton Blackwell. Then I tracked their son James Henry William Thomas
Blackwell, his wife Clarissa Jane West, and found all of their children and
spouses. I see that I have some selected later generations as well.

I did find an interesting, but not illuminating bit of information regarding
two of Susannah Huffman's children from two previous marriages. I believe the
information below, posted just this year, partially explains Susannah's death.

    James P Childers
Birth: Mar. 14, 1805 Pendleton County, Kentucky
Death: Jan. 28, 1882 Franklin County, Missouri
    26th MO Inf
Married first to Susannah Huffman Second to Elizabeth Jamieson, the widow of
John Rhodus. Before that she was married to William Elisha Smith.
John Rhodus, Leslie, age 26, was the son of Mrs. James Childers by her second
husband and Joseph Smith was her son by her first husband. On Monday evening
July 13, 1903, Smith was beaten in a hard fight with Martin Kenser and Rhodus
who was in Leslie for medical treatment, went without supporting Smith, who
angry and intoxicated, went home later and quarrelled till about bedtime when
he shot Rhodus in the abdomen and made a hole extending from the left kidney to
the navel and about two inches in diameter. Rhodus ran toward August Remmert
and called loudly for help and fell. He suffered intensely and begged to be
killed. Dr. Paul W. Fayn saw that the wound was mortal and soothed him as much
as possible. He died the next morning. The mother died the next day.

Next, Virginia asked if I would check the 1830 Madison County, Kentucky census
for Jesse Joel Embry or Embrey, a proposed third husband of Milly Childers,
daughter of Gooldby Childers and Nancy Swinny (spell). That census result is
    below:

The Ancestry.com software offers the following record that may be related, but
I do not think so. I think the Keiningham researcher offered the wrong record,
    or is mixed up.

Virginia, I searched the surname Embry and Embrey in the Kentucky Marriage
index and the Find A Grave web site. It appears that the name Embry is by far
    the most common.

Here are the Kentucky marriage records for five years on either side of 1822
for the letters embr*, which would display any surnname that begins with the
    letters embr:

Bryan, Frances Embree, John 24 Apr 1820 Kentucky
    Lincoln County
Embree, Ambrose Emerson, Catharine 6 Feb 1821 Kentucky
    Clark County
Embree, John Herring, Mary 23 Dec 1823 Kentucky
    Lincoln County
Embree, Joseph Igo, Rachel 8 Apr 1824 Kentucky

Embry, Joel Jackman, Mary 22 Aug 1822 Kentucky

Embry, Demarcus D. Martin, Milly 20 Jul 1817 Kentucky [Note: this is a Milly
but a bit early in time for our Milly]
    Clark County
Embry, Allen Moberly, Samira 27 Jun 1823 Kentucky
    Madison County
Embry, Elizabeth Moon, Zebadee 20 Jun 1824 Kentucky
    Warren County

Embry, Patsy Snodgrass, Thomas 28 Jun 1825 Kentucky
    Butler County
Embry, Golston Sublett, Polly 3 Feb 1824 Kentucky

Embry, Talitha D. Taylor, William G. 15 Apr 1817 Kentucky
    Madison County
Embry, Samuel Towler, Mary 22 Apr 1817 Kentucky

So, at this time I find no evidence that our Milly married a person named
    Embry.
