    Follows Husband to the Grave
Widow of the Late Chas. Childers Died on Tuesday
Five Children, One of Them an Infant, Left to Mourn Victim of Cancerous Growth

Just a month ago Charles Childers, a well known horse trainer, was thrown from
a colt and received injuries which resulted in his death.

The family had not yet recovered from the shock when Mrs. Childers died, death
    taking place Tuesday evening.

When Childers met with the accident which caused his death his wife was in very
critical condition. She had been a sufferer from cancer of the stomach. The
news of the accident to her husband was kept from her as long as possible but
when death came she learned the story. The shock was such that it was feared
she could not survive long. With an infant baby at her bedside and three other
children to live for, Mrs. Childers made a desperate struggle for life but it
was in vain. Her death took place at the family home on West Oak street.

The infant child, a boy, is 10 months old. In June the mother's ailment became
such that she was taken to the hospital for treatment. An operation was
performed and later she returned to her home with little hope of recovery.

Two daughters and a son have been here for some time, the latter having been
called home by the death of his father. Since that time he has remained,
securing employment and residing with the family.

Mrs. Childers was 43 years old and had been a resident here for a number of
years. Her death was a shock to the friends of the family and the attendant
circumstances make it an unusually sad one.

I cannot yet account one child of Charles Preston Childers and Alzada Beeman.
I think that child was fourth of five and died as a child in either Wyoming or

The remaining two children are Roy Henry Childers and Rachel D. Childers.

Roy was born December 13, 1892 in Butte, Silver Bow, Montana according to his
WW II Registration record. I tracked Roy to Houston, Harris, Texas in 1930.
He may have been married to a second wife at that time. I have no conclusive
    information thereafter.

Rachel married twice that I can document. Her first husband was Clarence
Theodore Peterson who was born and died in Fort Collins, Larimer, Colorado.
Rachel and Clarence had a daughter named C. Dolores Peterson. I cannot yet
    find this daughter.

Rachel was listed as a survivor in sister Edith's obituary and known as Mrs. E.
    W. Copeland in 1949. Rachel was not mentioned as a survivor in the obituary of
her younger brother Charles Clarence Childers. I have two possibilities in the
SS Death Index with a birth date and location correlation but nothing

I must say that the circumstances in the deaths of Charles Preston Childers and
Alzada Beeman were shocking to me and certainly very tragic for the children.
It must have been very difficult for the children for a while. It seems to me
that living so far away from relatives in Union County, Oregon was a huge
disadvantage at that time. I suspect the folks who know the most about this
family are the descendants of Charles Clarence Childers who remain in and
    around Larimer County, Colorado.

Stan Young sent a number of very nice photographs of Edith M. Childers and
Rachel D. Childers. I put each into a Word document with the descriptions he

Edith M. Childers married Roland Alphonso Young.

Rachel D. Childers married Clarence Theodore Peterson (Stan Young says Clarence
was abusive and Rachel divorced him]
Rachel D. Childers married Elmer W. Copeland (Stan Young says his nickname was

Charles Clarence Childers married Ada Emily Brezina (Stan Young says Ada left
her first husband who was abusive)
Note: Albert F. Childers, son of Ada by first marriage, was adopted by Charles
Clarence Childers. This was news to me.

I attach the Word document to this e-mail message. If this document does not
open correctly I will change the version to an older version and resend it to
