"I?ve confirmed Tavner?s grandfather was Edwin Young. His grandmother may have been Priscilla Beale but I?ve never found any proof of it. I?d like to know when Tavner?s first wife Nancy died. It was after their son Samuel was born in 1832 and before 1840. I believe that she is buried in the same cemetery that Tavner is buried in but the marker has been lost. It is the same place where 2nd great grandfather James Duncan Jackson is buried. Tavner is a 3rd great grandfather.
"Some of the info on that sheet about the children isn't fully accurate but it was a good starting point. I've been able to document most all of his children from his first marriage. Five of them lived full lives to adulthood. The three sons all ended up in Union County, Kentucky. In his will Tavner left slaves to the five children from his first marriage when died in 1864. Fortunately the slaves were free by law a little more than a year later. All of his property went to his second wife."
(I have not input the children listed on the inaccurate sheet. JJK)
Later: I've found a DAR application which gives some dates. I don't have access to the documents that the applicant may have used to document this record. I do know that older applications did not have to meet the current more stringent documenting standards. So here is what was on the app for Nancy and "Travner Beale Young":
Nancy Pryor b 25 Nov 1795 at _______, died 16 Apr 1840 at _______
Travner Beale Young b 16 Feb 1795 at ________, died 23 Mar 1864 at ______
They were married 5 Jan 1815.
They had a son John Munley Young b 15 Nov 1815 Trimble Co., KY, d 13 Aug 1897 at Union Co. KY. John Munley Young married on 26 Jan 1836 to Catherine Ann Tandy b 5 Aug 1816 Carroll Co., KY; d 18 Sep 1881 Union Co., KY.
The dates I have for Tavener are from find-a-grave but I didn't note if they were from a visible gravestone or from an added note on the site. But from there I have Tavener born 15 Feb 1797 and died 21 May 1864 in Bedford.
So judge for yourself whether any of these dates are right or not.
Note from Phil Jackson: As for Tavner's dates I've doubted the 1797 date as the 1850 and 1860 census records state 1795. There is a picture of his gravestone at the Find a Grave site and the marker seems to indicate 1797 but based on Tavner's first marriage date I tend to believe the 1795 date.
