Note: "Uncle Jim came to Kirk Farm on a motorcycle. When he went to leave, the motorcycle would not start when he coasted down the driveway on it. He and Dad went back to a spot on the road where it begins to slope down to MacFadyen's and, with all of us herded well back from it, Dad pushed with all his speed (and Dad had speed in those days!). When they were over the little bridge it suddenly exploded into noise and dust and Uncle Jim went roaring off and disappeared over the top of the hill. Mother wailed, 'The Lord help us, he'll kill himself!' I expect it was her fear for his safety that imprinted that event on my memory." Helen Thomson Allnutt's memories of her uncle.
