Note: Reminiscences of childhood by Jean Thompson Aug 2000: 105 Campsie St was a room and a kitchen (and toilet and scullery!). There were allotments across the road and father Robert kept the family in vegetables. Dinner was in the middle of the day and father, who had an hour for dinner, came home for it. The Marne was only 5 minutes walk away. Dinner on Monday (washday) was always mince and butter beans. Around 1927/26 the Thompsons moved to 103 Broomknowes Rd, an upstairs 3 apartment flat in a 4 in a block. It was further from the Marne but father still came home for dinner. The men worked at Christmas but had 2 weeks off at New Years (1 week without pay). The family had big parties.
