Note: Due to neglect, Alfred was taken away from his mother on May 7, 1880. It was stated that his father was dead and his mother was a drunkard earning her living by begging. He had vermin on his head and his clothes were poor when he was admitted. He was fostered out to people in country Victoria. He drowned while swimming among reeds when he was 11.
