Note: Here is a poem Aunt Sara wrote in 1983 describing her visit to Union Cemetery where her parents are buried in Belleisle Creek, NB: The cemetery grass was so lush and green, Among the headstones solid set, That I hardly noticed the love-set plants, Lifting their heads of white and red. Lifting their blooms and their struggling leaves Beside the headstone of Mary and Tom: Dear to the hearts of their children eight Of which I am fortunate to be one. And I put my blossom stems in the ground, And I sighed for the past that we used to share; And I walked away through the green, green grass, Above the neighbours sleeping there. Sara was a very intelligent and insightful person. She was artistic and took art lessons in Saint John, NB with Miller Brittain, Jack Humphries and Ted Campbell during the early 1940s. During the latter part of WWII, she joined the RCAF and was trained as a photographer. After the war she worked in Saint John and then worked for the Hudson's Bay Company in Edmonton as a window dresser. She met Robert Johnson and married him and had 6 children. She continued doing water colours when she could as well as sign painting and continued her interest in photography - especially photographing flowers. She wrote poetry and a book about her experiences in the air force as well as a book with Robbie Burns' poems
