Note: Margaret's family attended St. James Anglican Church before starting to attend St. Thomas'. After Margaret's mother died, she and her brother Harry ran the apartment building at 55 Queenston. Margaret Smith collected the rent and kept the books. She eventually bought out her brother. The income from the apartment helped the family to afford a used car every 2 years or so. Newspaper death notice: "SMITH, Margaret - At the St. Catharines General Hospital, on Monday, Oct. 11th, 1948, Margaret Stull, beloved wife of Spencer J. Smith, in her 52nd year (late of 57 Queenston Street). Resting at the Hulse & English Funeral Chapel, 75 Church Street at Lyman. Service in the chapel on Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Interment in Victoria Lawn Cemetery." Newspaper article describing Margaret's funeral: "Mrs. Margaret Smith: A wide circle of friends attended the funeral of the late Mrs. Margaret Smith, beloved wife of Spencer J. Smith, held Thursday afternoon from the Hulse and English funeral chapel. Rev. Canon A. H. Howitt officiated and left a message of comfort with the sorrowing family. Members of Unitas Rebekah Lodge formed a guard of honor at the chapel. Interment was made in the family plot in Victoria Lawn Cemetery, amid a profusion of beautiful floral offerings, with Canon Howitt conducting the committal service. The following gentlemen acted as casket bearers: Messrs. Clifford Downs, Charles Colman, Ralph Anderson, Herbert Smith, Joseph Willey and William Walker. On Wednesday evening members of Rebekah Lodge No. 266 conducted the ritualistic service of their order in the chapel with Sister Ann Welsh as Noble Grand, Sister Alice Aikey, Vice Grand and Sister V. Annerman, Chaplain."
