Campbell, wife, DofB June 1836, age 63,married 45 years, b in Ohio, Father in NY, Mother in NY, like her husband could read, write and speak English. Charles, son, DofB April 1870, age 30, single, b in MI, Father in NY, Mother in Ohio, farmer, could read, write and speak English. Census 1910: Michigan, Eaton Co, Kalamo John F. Campbell, head, age 77, married for 52 years, b in New York, Father b in New Jersey, Mother b in Vermont, a farmer owning his own general farm (no mortgage), able to read and write. Luceba J. Campbell, wife, age 73, married for 52 years, had 9 children, 8 are living, b in Ohio, Father b in New York, Mother b in New York, able to read and write. Property bought and sold by John and Luceba: April 30, 1866 J.F.C. bought lots 12 and 13 in the village of Charlotte, Eaton Co, MI from Simeon and Phebe Huffer for $500.00. (It doesn't state that John was "of Charlotte" so is this when the family arrived in Eaton County?) These two lots are the 3rd & 4th south of Lawrence on Oliver on the east side. March 13, 1868 J. F.C. & L.J.C. of Charlotte, MI sold lots 12 & 13 in Block 21of Charlotte, MI to Jonathan C. & Helen G. Harmon for $1450.00. It states that JFC held a mortgage of $100.00 on this land that Henry Hart was paying him over the year starting in July 1867. March 13, 1868 Jonathan and Helen Harmon sold 80 acres (the north half of the southeast quarter of Section Sixteen, Township Three, North of Range Five West) to JFC & LJC for $1300.00. January 12, 1871 J.F.C. & L.J.C. of Chester, Eaton Co, MI sold for $310 the following to James H. Bottomley of Chester: The north 15 acres of the north half of the southeast quarter of Section Sixteen, Township Three north of Range Five. April 16, 1873 James H. & Julia M. Bottomley sold the above property back to J.F.C & L.J.C. for $350. April 14, 1881 J.F.C. & L.J.C. of Chester sold their 80 acres of land (N1/2 of SE1/4 of Sec 16, Twp 3 N of Range 5) to Herman C. Williams of Chester for $3600. except a certain mortgage given by the Campbells to Harvey Mills for $500 which mortgage said Williams assumed and agreed to pay. April 25, 1881 and then dated October 26, 1880 at two other spots on the page - Sarah A. Charles of Chester sold land for $3000.00 (minus the amount owing on the mortgages below which J.F.C. will pay) to John F. Campbell of Chester: all that portion of the NE quarter of Section Twenty-two in Twp Three north of Range Five West lying east of the Thornapple River, excepting therefrom the North 36 1/4 acres. Said premises are conveyed subject to a certain mortgage given by Margaret A. Claberg to Joseph Root and assigned by said Joseph Root to Roger Perkins and assigned by said Roger Perkins to James M. Pratt. Also a certain mortgage given by Sarah A. Charles to Amos Allen. March 8, 1893 J.F.C. & L.J.C. of Chester sold to Clyde Harmon the following land: All that portion of the NE quarter of Section 22 in Town 3 north of Range 5 west, lying east of the Thornapple River, excepting there from the north 36 1/4 acres for $1.00. August 27, 1894 George and Calista Frank of Kalamo sold the following land to J.F.C. & L.J.C. of Chester for $2000.00: the East one half of the East one half of the SE quarter of Section 14, Town 2, North of Range 6 West. The crops now growing will go to the Franks as well as all movable property on the land.
