Note: Dave, her nephew, and Bert, her niece's husband, always remembered the way the residents of West Hartlepool would greet Aunt Sarah as she walked down the street; she had taught most of them so everyone would be very respectful and say "Good morning, Miss Thomson". This is a description of Sarah written by the same nephew David Thomson: Aunt Sarah was a large woman both in height and girth with a countenance that, when necessary, would put the fear of God into any member of her class who hadn't completed an assignment to her satisfaction. To sum up she was a mixture of Dad, Mary and Sara (his two sisters).

Note: Northern Daily Mail West Hartlepool 3 October 1957 DEATH OF FORMER JESMOND ROAD TEACHER Miss Sarah Thomson, an 82 years old retired school teacher, of 87 Chester Road, West Hartlepool, was found dead at her home yesterday. She graduated from the Church of Scotland Teachers' Training College, Edinburgh, and came to West Hartlepool in 1903 and was a teacher in the borough until her retirement in 1937. For many years she served at Jesmond Road School, West Hartlepool. Neighbours were concerned at Miss Thomson's non-appearance and the door of her home was forced and she was found dead. Thomson On September 30, suddenly, Sarah, of 87 Chester Road. Cortege to leave Mason's Funeral Home, Friday, 2-50pm, for service at Stranton Grange Crematorium.
