a. Note:   In early 1887 Fred was working in a grocer's shop. His father had died the preceding August and the family had no income except what the children could earn.
 In 1928 Fred and Anna travelled to England and back. Their boat landed in Quebec City on their return and the record exists of them crossing the border on their way home.
 On May 31st Fred and his daughter Barbara left New York City on the Queen Mary. They landed in Southampton and said they would be staying in Barnet, England (where Fred's brother Arthur lived).
 In August 1937 Fred and his 18 year old daughter Barbara travelled home via Quebec City.
