Note: Obituary for Pearl Everett Maynard - unknown paper, 16 Aug 2002. Source: Original copy on file MAYNARD, Pearl E. (Peggy), age 93, formerly of Whirlaway Circle in Knoxville, died 6:03 A.M. Thursday, August15, 2002 at Shannondale Nursing Home. Mrs. Maynard was a member of the American Cancer Society since the early 1960�s, serving as the first woman president at the local and State board level. Served on the Board of Directors of the Arthritis Foundations, Knoxville Women�sClub, and as Chairman of the Garden Gate Garden Club and Belmont West Garden Club; remained active in Beta Sigma Phi and Church Street Women United at Church Street Methodist where she was a member since 1939. She was employed by the Knox County Election Commission and was an avis supporter of the Democrat Party where she served in many capacities. Retired from the Veterans Administration as a medical secretary. Preceded in death by: husband, Dennis J. Maynard, Sr.; great-grandson, Christopher Maynard Orten; special aunt, Mattie Watson. Survived by: son, Asa Maynard of Marseillis, Illinoise; daughters-in-law, Rose Maynard Gray, wife of deceased Dennis J. Maynard, Jr. of Knoxville, Betty Maynard, wife of deceased Lamar Maynard of Palm Harbor, Fla.; grandchildren, Susan Maynard of Knoxville, Dennis J. Maynard III, (wife Sherry) of Knoxville, Ricky Maynard and Sandra Underwood of Palm Harbor, Fla., and Robert Wayne Maynard of Plano, Texas; five great grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren. The family would like to thank all the special friends and neighbors who enriched her life throughout the years. One special friend who we feel is a part of our family is Mrs. Annette Adams, caregiver. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Her many close friends, especially Anne and Walter Lambert, the Tisdale family, and H. C. and Maxine Masingill, and a special thanks to the staff of Arbor Terrace and Shannondale Nursing Home Second Floor for the love and compassion you have shown to our grandmother. Family and friends will meet at Stevens Mortuary at 10:00 A.M. Saturday to go in procession to Highland Memorial Cemetery for a 10:30 A.M. graveside service and interment, Rev. Cabel Trent officiating. Pallbearers are Dennis J. Maynard, Buddy Turpin, Walter Lambert, Jim Moulton, Randy Tisdale, Dick Tisdale. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Knox County Unit of the American Cancer Society, 871 Weisgaber Rd., Knoxville 37909, Emerald Avenue Touth Foundation, 1718 North Central St., Knoxville 37917, or Church Street United Methodist Church, 900 Henley Street, Knoxville 37902. Family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. on Friday at Stevens Mortuary, Oglewood Ave. at Broadway.
