Notes
a. Note:   Notes from Karlen Bruner Bain
Her family moved from Mount Pleasant, TX, to Floydada, TX in 1891. After her marriage, she lived there also, then in Tucumcari, NM and Hereford, TX before moving to Amarillo, TX in 1931. As a Rancher's wife, in addition to caring for her own six children, her brother Harvey and his three children, she also served 3 meals a day to as many as 26 cowboys. For the rest of her life, the family joked that if anyone dared to turn away from the table during a meal, the plate would be washed and put away before he could catch it.
A feisty, stout 4'10" woman, she re-learned driving at age 70 (because her husband's stroke made driving necessary again)> She would barely see over the steering wheel, and never acknowledged one-way streets after Amarillo put them in. Policeman in the mid 1950's Amarillo recognized the deep maroon Bruner Lincoln Continental, and tried to move pedestrians and other traffic out of her path.
