a. Note:   d by Benjamin and Roancy (Gowan) Lawrence of Lehigh, town of Pembroke, N.Y. (corner Brown Road and Ellingwood Road). They owned and lived on the farm immediately east of the overpass of the Lehigh Valley Railroad. The railroad cuts through the front yard of the farm. Here Edwin lived from the time he was six years old until his death. His foster father, Benjamin Lawrence, had Edwin's name changed from Cady to Lawrence by the Legislature of the State of New York. His mother died when Edwin was a small child.
 He was a successful farmer and after old age forced his retirement he still lived on the Lawrence Farm, which was operated by his son Morris. In later years he lost the sight of one eye and was fast lossing sight in the other at the time of his death.
 Edwin was a Democrat and was elected to the office of Highway Commissioner in a town predominantly Republican. This speaks for well of the esteem he was holding.
 Edwin is buried beside his first wife in the cemetery at North Darien, N.Y. He is a decendant of Nicholas Cady, the immigrant, who came to America about 1645 and settled in Watertown, Massachusetts.
