Note: n Jaffrey, New Hampshire, and Morris W. Cady lived in Windsor, Vermont. The towns were not very far apart and the two men were friends Morris W. Cady removed to Alden, N.Y. and Benjamin removed to Lehigh, New York. Still not too many miles separated them and having no children of his own, Benjamin Lawrence adopted Edwin Lucian Cady, son of Morris W. Cady. Benjamin Lawrence was a captain of the militia and had the confidence and esteem of his neighbors. His sister married a man named Thomas, and was the mother of the first wife of George Phelps. At the time of his arrival at Lehigh the section was not as thick with railroads as it is today. The Lehigh Valley Railroad hadn't been constructed this far west. When it was put through, the barn on the farm was on the right of way and had to be moved. The railroad cuts right accross the front yard of the farm. Benjamin Lawrence came to Lehigh in 1826.
