An anecdote Margaret Bos-Blundell heard from her father, is that one of the uncles [?] of John Blundell [1877-1935] invented the garden sprinkler, lived in Sale near [or in] Manchester and had become quite well to do, may also have been a cousin of Annie Blundell-Burton. My granddad's mother Elizabeth Blundell nee Parker was having a very hard time financially while her husband John Blundell was working in Canada around 1913/1915 [he had wanted to emigrate]. Elizabeth had decided that she didn't wish or dare to join him there with the children, so he eventually returned to Southport after baby daughter Margaret had died [the story goes John never saw Margaret]. One day [during her husband's stay in Canada], Elizabeth decided to visit her husbands uncle in Sale to ask him for a loan, so she went there with two of her sons and when she rang the bell at the front door, they were told to go round the back, to the servants entrance. They must have looked quite poor. They were refused the loan and given a very small amount of money. Probably my granddad [1902] was with his mother as a young boy when it happened and must have repeated this story to his family after he married. It is likely that this uncle was related to Annie Blundell nee Burton, John senior's mother.
