Charles Wursch, his brother, listed himself as being born in IL on the 1920 KS Federal Census Records and again, Chicago, IL is listed as the place of birth on Charles Wursch's death certificate. Other census records also indicate his birth as April 21, 1870. John Mathias Bach's death certificate states his birthdate was also April 21, 1870. John's brother, Micah "Michael" Bach was not born until April 09, 1872, two years after this census record was recorded. This record indicates that John Mathias Bach was also called Mike.

NOTE BY BESSIE WUERSCH PAWLOSKI TO MERRIE LYNN FRAME RUE SMITH REGARDING CERTIFICATE OF DEATH:
"Couldn't find our Grandfather Wuersch and Grandmother, Margaret Wuersch nor John Age 4 or Charles age 1 in New Durham Township, Otis, LaPorte Co., IN."

"...You will notice that no date in Sept. 1887 is given - however, my mother thought your grandmother, Margaret Ida Wuersch Frame b. August 25, 1887 was about one month old when this sudden death happened to my father's mother."
Mrs. Benedict Baugh, female, white, died Sept. 1887; married, 57 years, German, Instatanious death, New Durham Township; Valvular disease of heart. Dr. C. R. Warren, Otis, Indiana. (The space where her father or mother should have been listed showed Benedict Baugh's father, Shadrack Baugh).

EXCERPT FROM WESTVILLE-NEW DURHAM PUBLIC LIBRARY DATED AUGUST 17, 2000 TO MERRIE LYNN FRAME RUE SMITH REGARDING INDIVIDUALS KNOWN TO HAVE LIVED AND DIED IN THE OTIS, IN AREA:
"...Any dates prior to 1882 could not be checked in the local newspaper, THE WESTVILLE INDICATOR, as the library's microfilmed copies of the paper date back only as far as 1882. I searched September and October 1887 issues for an obituary for Margaret Arenz Wuersch Bach and found none. I searched for an obituary for Juliana or Christiana Witte Miller Urrick (Urik) after April 30, 1897 but several issues around that date are missing. Issues around May 18, 1884 showed no obituary for Emma Miller Wuersch.
I have heard a number of older graves in Pinhook Cemetery are unmarked, possibly because of complete deterioration of head stones. That may be why the listing does not include some of the names for which you wanted information.
The only cemetery in Otis is the Catholic one, did not find any of the names.
Eight Square Cemetery, about a mile west of Otis, shows none of the names."
NOTE: In May 2000, I [Merrie Smith] personally visited the Pinhook Cemetery. The headstones located closest to the Church building seemed to be the oldest section of the cemetery. Some of the headstones were broken and stacked in pieces. There were many headstones in this section, but time and weather obliterated any possibility of detection of the identity of the individual resting there.
