Note: I believe Charles and Esther met in church since they and their parents all belonged to the same church. Charles Henry Stevens' will, Halifax County Will Book 57, page 326. I C.H. Stevens of Halifax County, Va. Being of sound and disposing mind do hereby make my last will and testament. First I want my just debts paid. Second I give and bequeath to My bloved wife Esther Comer Stevens all of my personal property to use what she needs during her life time and what money is left after her expenses hav been paid to be divided equally between my nine children Euvenia Stevens Link Alvah C Stevens Murlin Stevens Gravitt Chester C Stevens Henry G Stevens Christine Stevens Smith Marie Stevens Hudson C. H. Stevens Jr. and David K Stevens. Third I give unto my wife afore mentioned all of my land except 91 acres 90 acres to be divided between My nine children aforementioned ten acres each if any wants to sell their part I desire them to sell to some of the other. This 90 acres must come off the east side of the farm joining the land of Chester Stevens and each 10 acres must come to Highway 58 each part having the same width on 58 and all the way toward north must be the same width. And give to Grace Baptist Church one acre for cemetery joining the present cemetery on the east side and going between roads 58 and 601 for enough to make one acre. After my wife death the balance of the land to be divided between my nine children if they can agree on it if not it can be sold ans money divided. I appoint South Boston Bank and Trust Company and my wife Esther Comer Stevens Administrators. Given under my hand this 10 day of Nov 1955 C H Stevens.
