Note: From the CORPUS CHRISTI CALLER-TIMES, Sunday, June 25, 2000: BLACKWOOD Portland, Texas - Everett Earl Blackwood, 72, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, June 22, 2000 after a courageous five year battle against prostate cancer. He will be greatly missed by his family and many, many devoted friends. Earl was born and raised in Sayre, Oklahoma, where he is still renowned for his youthful mischievousness and legendary practical jokes. He is also remembered for his abilities as an All State right tackle for the Sayre Eagles. While still a young man, he traveled the world with the Merchant Marines. Afterwards, he honorably served in the United States Air Force, during which time he assisted in the development and implementation of radar defense networks for his country in such places as England, Taiwan, and others too numerous to mention. He achieved the rank of Master Sergeant and retired in 1968. After retiring from the Air Force, Earl worked for Reynolds Metals for 23 years, where he is remembered for his craftsmanship, his sense of humor, his loyalty to friends, and his generous nature. Most of all, Earl was a creator-considered by some to be a mechanical genius; he designed and built a gearshift replacement device so unique he was awarded a United States Patent. He created and manufactured equipment for Theft Shield, a major automobile protection company. He designed and manufactured retrofits for off-road motorcycles. The things he built for his friends and neighbors are too numerous to mention. Earl’s primary creation, however, was a feeling of goodwill and fellowship. He loved people and cherished his friends. He loved his family most of all, and was a devoted husband, father, and provider. Additionally, Earl was a dancer, a member of several area dance clubs, and cut a particularly mean Waltz. He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Marisue Coulliette Blackwood; his daughter, Donna Kay Blackwood; his son, Barry Alan Blackwood; and his sister, Betty Kiekhafer and husband Vernon. Memorial Services in Earl’s honor are to be held at 7:00 pm, Monday, June 26, 2000 at the Limbaugh Funeral Home Chapel in Portland, Texas. Lastly, Earl asked that we convey the following message to those who knew him... “To my treasured friends, fair winds and following seas.” New York Passenger Lists, 1820-1957 about Everett E Blackwood: Name: Everett E Blackwood Arrival Date: 17 Apr 1946 Birth Year: abt 1928 Age: 18 Gender: Male Port of Departure: Sote,Fra Port of Arrival: New York, New York Ship Name: Charles M Conrad
