NY laborer Death certificate: cause of death, Chronic Nephritis Gives mothers name as Mary Edwards (now just figure that one out) Obituary: Middletown Daily Press, Tuesday Evening, March 28, 1905 Abraham Babcock Abraham Babcock, formerly of Port Jervis, died at his home in Monroe Sunday, aged 68 years, of Bright's disease, after an illness of nearly two years. Mr. Babcock was in the employ of the D. & H. Canal Co., for over 30 years, at Mongaup and Sparrowbush, Sullivan County but after the abandonment of the canal he removed with his family to Port Jervis, where he was employed as foreman under street commissioner Robinson. After two years he moved to Monroe. At the outbreak of the Civil War he enlisted in Co. F., of the First Regiment of the Excelsior Brigade, commanded by General Sickles, and served throughout the war. He was a member of Carroll Post. F.A.R., and of Drew M.E. Church of Port Jervis. He leaves a wife, who was a Miss Margaret McGouigle, and the following children: Angeline, wife of J. L. Gregory, of Monroe; Ephraim M., in the New York City postoffice; Peter E., of Mansfield, O., Libbie, wife of E. B. Hunter, of Monroe; Carrie A., wife of F. C. Bond, and Margaret C., both of Port Jervis. The funeral took place from the house on Main Street, Monroe, at 10:30 a.m. this morning after which the body was taken to Port Jervis for interment. A delegation from Carroll Post, met the funeral party and accompanied them to Laurel Grove Cemetery. The services at the grave were conducted by Rev. Wesley Martin.
