Baird 88 year old lives with his daughter on Dollar Road will soon celebrate his 88th birthday. 60 year membership Brotherhood of Locomotive Firemen and Engineers, attended Kennesaw Lodge, joined July 25, 1885, ran a Western and Atlantic switch engine between Central Avenue and Foundy St. 20 years before he was seriously injured when a coal car cleared his seal of the cabs from the 135 between the present Pryor and Whitehall St. viaducts. Born Alabama 19 Nov 1857, eghton? (Elyton?) when 16 took roots near Kingston GA, farmed three years, started working for RR July 1882 and on 8 Sept started as a full-fledged fireman. (2) Obit. J. M. Baird, Sr. 89 Dies in Hospital of Dollar Road, Adamsville died Sunday, funeral services 10 am Tuesday in Center Hill M. E. Church. Burial West View Cemetery. Kennessee Lodge No. 247. J.P. 16 years Center Hill District. Retired 42 years ago in a RR accident, survived wife, three sons W.M. Baird and A.B. Baird of Atlanta, John M. Baird of Trinidad, B. Wit: six daughters Mrs. Homer Lyle, Mrs Lucille Harbuck, Miss Susan Baird, Mrs. R.M. Stokes and Mrs. L. M. Granville all of Atlanta and Mrs. James W. Ryle of Columbus, two sisters, Mrs. Martha Trucks and Mrs. Mary Blackburn both of Birmingham Ala, and a sister-in-law Mrs George D. (4) William Marshall Baird's interview with Bruce Baird, Jr. on 20 Feb 1987 Daddy worked for Westend and Atlantic RR (W&A RR), taken over by Nashville, Chattanooga & St. Louis (NC&StL) in 1894, taken over by Louisville and Nashville (L&N) in 1930's or 1940's. Worked 1883-1905,7 back broke, train wreck binding up running into cars. Was in Kingston GA, W&A RR runs through, got a job with them. He was a marshall in Kingston GA in 1880. Aunt Mary in Northern Alabama raised him. Had half sister Martha Trucks, half sister Ida Hunter, brothers Uncle James Monroe (Athelia), Frank (1w)about dead in 1929. L&N RR ran right behind of Aunt Martha's lands. (5) Letter from Susan E. Baird to Margot Baird - Tuesday, Jan 25, 1966 "Papa had a cousin come to Atlanta and attend Medical School and lived in Papa's home. Doctors and lawyers seem to be the profession following that line." Robert Heny Baird was John Milton Baird's cousin. (6) Receipt for John Milton Baird's bond distribution - Bruce C.
