Notes
a. Note:   Baker Ydna Project & the Genealogy of Edward Baker of Lynn, MA Haplogroup Haplogroup R1b1a2a1b5
A Baker surnamed grandson of Edgar Baker, Sr. joined the Baker Ydna project in January 2010, as a representative of our Edward Baker (abt 1610-1689) and his son Lt. Timothy Baker (1645- 1727) of the Lynn & Northampton, MA line. He is a 37 marker match with 7 descendants of Timothy Baker (1675- 1747) of Maidenhead, NJ, and 1 descendant of Timothy of Northampton's brother, John of Dedham, This confirms the descendancy from Edward Baker of Lynn, MA 1630 and also proves that Timothy of Northampton's son Timothy by first marriage to Grace Marsh did in fact survive to adulthood, becoming Timothy Baker of Maidenhead, NJ. In 2011 a proven descendant of Lt. Timothy's older brother, John of Dedham, MA also proved to be a match to all, soldifying the identity of Timothy Baker of Maidenhead, NJ. Genealogist Paul C. Reed is now working on an article for TAG (The American Genealogist).
Our Lt. Timothy Baker of Northampton, MA (1647-1729) had one son, Timothy, Jr., b. December 18, 1675 with his first wife Grace Marsh, (born Hartford, CT, daughter of Gov. John Marsh of Connecticut, a founder of Hartford and Anne Webster, later of Hadley, Hampshire, MA) Their first child, Grace Baker, b. November 15, 1673, d. February 10,1674. Grace Marsh Baker died May 31.1676. These births and deaths are a matter of Northampton town record. It had long been thought young Timothy hadt died early as well, despite the fact that no town record for his death is found. Furthermore, his grandfather John Marsh's will of March 3,1688 (the year Timothy turned 13 years of age, mentions an inheritance for "my grandson Baker of Northampton when he shall reach age of one and twenty." Ydna evidence shows that in fact that Timothy, Jr. must have survived to adulthood and was raised in Northampton, moving away before being of record in Northampton as an adult. Tim, Jr. had Marsh relatives in Hartford. Long Island where his future wife was born was not far across the Sound from CT and her family had land in Hunterdon Co., NJ. This is an exciting revelation for anyone interested in the Edward Baker line.
Edgar, Sr. (Charles Wiley, Ahira, Alexander Douglass, Charles, Cpt. Thomas, Lt. Timothy, Edward of Lynn, MA) Grandfather Edgar Eugene Sr. graduated from Iowa State College, Ames, Iowa and taught school in Flagstaff, AZ., for a time, according to his son Edgar, Jr.. (His mother's Allen relatives lived in AZ) He married for the first time, quite late, at age 43 to a much younger 22 year old Anna Belle Byrd after moving with his parents, sister, Meta to CA, years after his maternal grandfather John Allen and Aunt Emma Allen Everly Moffett had moved to Sonora, CA. He worked 28 years for Mt. Whitney Power and Electric, organized in 1909, serving on the Board of Directors as secretary of the Board until it merged with Southern California Edison. He stayed on with Edison as a regional auditor for California until his retirement in 1933. After retirement, he worked as a Tulare Co. youth probation officer and counsellor for 15 years and was a member of the Visalia School board for 36 years. He was elected elementary and high school trustee in 1915, and clerk for both boards from 1929 on until retiring in 1940. He was considered a civic leader and active in the Masonic Lodge for 58 years, since joining on his 21st birthday in Lewis Iowa, continuing after he moved west to Visalia in 1897, affiliating with the Visalia Lodge # 128 where he served as master in 1917, and was installed as secretary in January 1919, a position which he for 28 years until his death. He was made a Master Mason in 1917 and was a member of the Royal Arch Masons #44 and a patron of the Martha Washington, chapter 13, Order of the Eastern Star. "Ask Baker" was the reply when anyone had a question about Masonry.
