Note: Lockwood, Dade County, Missouri Lockwood Luminary 4 Dec 1914 Accidently Killed ... Train number 106, or the early morning flyer, killed James M Baker of Everton, just off the bridge 11/4 mile east of town Sunday morning. He had come in here on the midnight train Saturday night and had attempted to go to the home of some friends he had living within the vicinity when he was killed. How he was killed is a mystery, but it is presumed he had attempted to cross the bridge and seeing he could not make the distance, sat down on the end of the tie outside the rails. The step in front of the engine was bent and it is the supposition that this is what struck him. The ties were covered with blood and the body was found at almost fifty feet from this place. His head was crushed, brains and skull along the rails, his heart and lungs almost out of his body and bones crushed. His body was found about 8:30 and under the direction of Coroner Russell brought here and prepared for burial. His brother Andy Baker, of Everton, came after the body and took it to his home on an early train Monday. The engineer in charge of the train said he was making a distance of 50 mph at that time and knew nothing of the accident until he reached KC. The deceased was a man 57 years 11 months and 29 days old.[KeBaker.FTW] Died at age 57 after being struck by train near Lockwood, MO. Twin Brother of Thomas Jefferson Baker.
