  In 1899 she applied for and received a Confederate widow's pension from the State of Texas. The application had to be wittnesed by two of her sons. The witnesses were the two oldest , William Satterwhite Barrett who signed his name but Thomas J. and Mary Elizabeth each used and "x" as a signature.
  Mary Elizabeth descended from a very prominent family in Butler Co., AL. Her mother, at the time of her death, resided in Greenville, Alabama, Seat of Butler county.
