In lieu of flowers, Herb requested memorial gifts to the church for Camp Elim remodel or LBC Indonesia, 6023 S. Datura, Littleton, CO 80120. Herbert Leroy Banks, born Oct 9, 1921 in Downs, Osborne co Ks, passed on to his savior Aug. 18, 2008. Parents were Joseph Alonson Banks and Edna Pearl Frost. Brother Dale Banks and sister Lois. Herb was born of "Po folks who had weathered the Kansas dust storms and the depression. The virtues and values his heritage provided for him mixed with his everlasting abiding deep faith in his saviour Jesus Christ carried him safely into the life he was to live with his city girl-wife Alice for 62 years. Herb had a distinguised service record in 777th Air force Base Unit, US Army Air corps as a corporal in World War II. His brother also served, BANKS, Dale Alanson (1926- 2007 ). Corporal, Ordnance Corps, U.S. Army, 1951-1953 As did his father and Grandfather before them. Herb served in the Army for 5 years. under the GI bill he could have his education paid for. There were four christian Colloges he could choose from but two were closed filled up enrollment. He would go to one in Kansas City KS. Where he met Alice Boylan who was attending Bible classes and classes in biochemistry. After marriage, they went to CA when an opening occurred to go to a christian college. While in CA Charlott Grace was born. He came from a very religious minded family. He came from a family that served in most wars since coming from England and settelling in CT. making their pioneer way westward to Kansas. Much of the pioneer spirit, religious ferver, and patriatism, were a part of Herb too. Herb married Alice Faye Boylan Aug. 4, 1946 Kansas City,Jackson,MO. Together they raised three fine children, Charlott Grace, Susan Elaine, David Leroy. And are the proud grandparents of three grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Herb was a good singer as evidenced in the family funerals he sang at in KS and by the programs he sang at for Littleon Bible church. He led our singing in Bible Study at the apartment building. Herb and Alice had a deep desire to serve the Lord of their salvation. 43 years ago began opening their basement on Grant st. for a mens bible Study group which eventually led to the development of Littleton Bible Chapel as it is today. Herb was quite active in the establishment and ongoing of this Bible believing outreach. Herb was on the board of Elders for many years, on several committies, in many musical endeavors, and in the activities of Camp Elim. My personal notes are as follow by Donna J. Morris; As I am reading over the family papers Alice has kept so well so many years. I see the deep faiths of those he was related to. No wonder he was so stalwart to start a new church in the area, beginning in his home and culminating in Littleton on Datura st. Herb led our Monday 3 p.m. music singing for many years in the apartment building. I can see by the pictures I collected from the church, Herb loved to fish and camp out. He had many friends he spent time with outside the church. As I see the decline of his health and realize that his life here will probably not last much longer, I feel the sincere witness of his having asked Jesus to be his saviour many years ago and lived for Him. The quiet testimony of how he is facing the latter days of his life here in sharing his faith and love of Jesus. He will be missed by many, even those who hardly know him. He has had an impact on us all in the grace he is preparing to live eternally in Heaven and on the new earth. Alice has been a loving wife and Mother for over 60 years. She too was active in the church in the Camp activities, the sewing for the quilts etc. and bringing up three great children and having an affect on the three grandchildren left to mourn their Grandfather's passing. The word of God says “we do not mourn like those who have no hope- who are not born again- of that blessed resurrection morn.” We know Herb is now out of pain. We shall see him again in heaven for those who are born again. He is forever in our hearts and minds. Herb’s ancestry can be found on www.rootsweb.com put Herbert Leroy Banks in the search engine.
