a. Note:   obituary Edna Pearl Banks, daughter of Wellington and Mary Frost, was born on June 5, 1892, in Downs KS. She departed this life on Feb. 18, 1985, at the Parkview Manor Nursing Home in Osborne ,KS where she had happily resided the past two years. Edna graduated from Downs High School in 1911, She was a respected teacher for many years in the area country schools. On March 16, 1920, she as united in marriage to Joseph Alanson Banks. in the Frost home three miles south of Downs. This union was blessed with three children, Herbert, Dale, Lois. Edna and her husband Joe celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on March 16, 1976. They were farmers in the Downs area until upon retirement, they lived in Downs. Edna professed her faith in Jesus Christ as Saviour, at an early age at a tent meeting at Portis, KS and was baptised. She was a lifelong member of the Rose Valley Chruch. She served as Sunday School superintendant and was a Sunday School teacher.for many years. She also held various offices in the church. Edna worked activily in the WCTU through the years and in retirement enjoyed Golden Years Sewing Circle. She was a member of the Downs VFW Auxiliary. Edna was untiring in her devotion and love to her husband and family. Her pioneer spirit and resourcefulness sustained her family through the depression years. Her christian witness and example has long served as a guiding light to all those who knew and loved her. Edna was preceeded in death by her husband, Joe in Nov. of 1975, her parents, a brother Joe, and two sisters Ellen Hofer and Margaret Kincaid. she is survived by 2 sons, Herbert and wife Alice of Littleton, CO, and son Dale and wife Betty Joe of Downs, and daughter Lois McElroy and husband Robert of Miami, FL.: nine grandchildren and five great grandchildren, one brother Theron Frost of Rulo, NE, two sisters Alice Goodwin of Hawthorne, CA and Julia Muck of Downs, as well as a host of relatives and friends. Funeral services were held Thursday, Feb. 21. 1985, at 2:00 o'clock p.m. at the Rose Valley United Methodist Church with Rev. Gaylen Minner officiating. The hymn "O That Will Be Glory For Me" was sung by the congregation. The eulogy was given by her granddaughter, Mrs Joyce Keirns. The Hyms, "Ivory Palaces" and "In Times Like these" were sung by Herbert Banks and Mrs Betty Jo Banks accompanied by pianist Mrs Sherry Bock.The following served as pallbearers: David Banks, Everett Frost, August Newquist, Bill Wieker, Duane Keirns, and George Maier. Internment was made in the Downs Cemetary. The Domoney Funeral Home of Downs KS was in charge of arrangements. The family suggests memorials to the church.
