a. Note:   Obituary Joseph Alanson Banks, son of Charles and Mary Banks, was born Aug. 7, 1889 at Corning KS. departed this life at the Osborne County Memorial Hospital Nov. 5, 1975, at the age of 86 years, 2 months and 28 days.
  At the age of one year, his parents moved to a farm near Cawker City KS. Joe resided on the homestead until entering the Army in 1918 Upon his marriage to Edna Pearl Frost March 16, 1920, they then established their farm home in the Ross Valley community. To this union were born three children, Herbert, Dale and Lois. Joe was a friend and helper to those in need: one who has done for a great deal more than we have given him credit; living among us quietly and modestly. He was a faithful member of the Ross Valley Church. He served as Sunday School treasurer for over 20 years.
  Joe retired from farming in 1958 at which time they moved to their present home in Downs. Among his favorite hobbies were raising a big garden (giving much of its' prize produce to others) and fishing.
  He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers. Albert, Harry, and Ed and one sister Maude Keirns. He is survived by his loving wife of over 55 yrs, Edna at home, son Herbert and wife Alice Banks of Littleton CO, son Dale and wife Betty Jo Banks of Downs, and daughter Lois and husband Robert McElroy of Miami FL. nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by a host of other relatives and friends. Joe and Edna had celebrated over 55 years of marriage. ' funeral services were held on Friday, November 7, 1975, at 2:00 p.m. at the Rose Valley United Methodist church with Rev. Henry Wagoner officiating. vocal music was by Mrs Henry Wagoner and Mrs Keith Doane, "His Eye Is On The Sparrow" and "God Will Take Care of You" accompanied by pianist Mrs. Roberta Walter. The following served as palbearers: August Newquist, Keith Doane, Don Walter,Joe Seaman, Don Saunders, and george Maier. Internment was made in the Downs City Cemetery. The family suggests memorials to the Rose Valley United Methodist Church. Domoney funeral Home had charge of arrangements.
