a. Note:   Two memories I have of him and they are fadding fast. We had an old rocking chair and one day when I was very young, I took a knife and carved off a few slivers from one of the arm. Rightly so, I was given a spanking by my dad. His hand was huge. It could easily hold a gallon jug and pour from ir, so there was problem in reaching every inch of then small rear end. I cried and had the habit of stopping my feet in defiance. Dad told me to stop. I did not. Was given a second spanking. I cried like hell, but I stopped the foot stompings. Then when he lay in bed, mortally ill, I wanted to see him. My oldest sister would not let me do so. I asked why? Cause your father is dying. I sked sis, "what's dying?" I was told that I never was at the funeral home so could not have see my dad in his casket. I told one and all that if I had not been there, how could I recall that interior so well? Or...my oldest brother refusing to go up to the casket. Stood in the back of the place and told my mother he hated God. "No you don't" "Yes I do. He took my father and now this father." This is my father. MDB
