Note: Names, marriage place and dates of birth, marriage, and death - originally supplied by K. Somerville. Paul P. Sheeks gave her name as Lucetia, but Mary V. Giera shows that she was known as Lucetta instead. Mary V. Giera (maryvmusic@comcast.net) sent a copy of Lucetta's marriage certificate which says: "This Certifies That I performed The Marriage Ceremony for Elijah Murray of County of Lawrence, Ind. and Lucetta Sheeks of Lawrence Co. Indiana on the Fourteenth day of Feb. 1838 at Col. John Sheeks' (The Bride's Father) In the Presence of Mrs. R. M. Parks [&] Ransom Burton R. M. Parks their Pastor at Freedom" Mary V. Giera, Ibid, also sent a typewritten copy of a news article which appeared in the Indianapolis [Indiana] Sentinel on Jan 1, 1902 re Lucetta's tragic death. It read as follows [the first paragraph is jumbled]: "Dragged to her death beneath the wheels of an electric car. Mrs. Lucetta Murray meets a terrible fate near The Crown Hill Cemetery With the daughter whom she had been visiting, she had spent the afternoon in the Grave yard. Hurrying across the tracks to catch the east bound car at Graceland Ave. and north of Crown Hill Cemetery. Mrs. Ruth Bosart of 4770 E. Washington, Irvington was her daughter. Mrs. Murray who was 63 years old was visiting her. Mrs. Murray and Mrs. Bosart and her 4 year old son, Russell went to Crown Hill Cemetery to look at the monument recently erected by Mrs. Bosart in memory of her husband, Timothy Bosart who died 2 years ago. They left the cemetey about 4 o'clock and went to the office of Goth & Co., Graceland Ave. to take a car for the city. They went diagonally across the street, watching a Crown Hill street car approaching from the west. An east bound car was bearing down on them but Mrs. Bosart says she is certain the gong did not ring and neither one heard the car. Mrs. Bosart was in front and had crossed the west bound track when she heard the car from the east close upon them. Turning she was horrified to see that it had struck her Mother and was dragging her Mother under the front truck, the motorman was making frantic efforts to apply the brake. Mrs. Murray was found pinned under the front trucks and life was extinct when she was extricated. Her body was fearfully mangled. Thomas W. Smock of 3710 Kenwood Ave. who was at Crown Hill at the time of the accident hurried to the place and saw that the car stopped 50 feet from the point where Mrs. Murray was struck and about 25 feet west of Graceland Ave. The right wheel passed over her body and she was lying between the two truck wheels when he reached the place. The car was raised by jacks by the street car men, George Wilmer of Crown Hill and others and Mr. Smock took Mrs. Murray's body from the wheels. Dr. E. A. Amos had been summoned, but Mrs. Murray breathed but a few moments after the car struck her. The car was number 209 of the N Illinois St and Crown Hill line. In charge was Conductor Ray Morse of 929 Udell St., North Indianapolis. Motorman was Will Soth of 1501 Capital Ave, North. Both men are old and trusted employees. They say that the car was running its usual speed when Mrs. Murray, Mrs. Bosart and the child suddenly ran in front of the car. It was impossible to stop in an instant but several who witnessed the accident say the motortman made a miraculous stop. Others say that the speed at Crown Hill is very great and all motormen exceed the safety limits there. Mrs. Murray was the wife of Elijah Murray, a prominent grocer and hardware man of Olney, Illinois. Besides Mrs. Bosart two other children survive: George B. Murray of South Sherman Drive and Ben S. Murray of Olney, Illinois. Mr. George Murray and Mrs. Bosart will accompany the remains to Olney. The remains were removed to Kreglos undertaking establishment and will be sent to Mrs. Murray's home this morning at 7:15. Mrs. Bosart is treasurer of The Jenny Electric Manufacturing Co. and is the widow of Timothy L. Bosart, who was at one time connected with the wholesale grocery firm of George W. Staout. Mr. Bosart dropped dead two years ago near the Belt R. R. and East Washington St."
