Note: Supposedly came to the U.S. with his father at the age of 12. He worked with his father as a gardener. He joined the Union Army of 6 Aug 1862 at Camp Toledo, Ohio, becoming a private in the 111th Ohio Volunteer Infantry. He was given a Medical discharge at Bowling Green Kentucky on 27 Mar 1863, due to a rupture on his left side. He married Mary Amelia Ingersol 10 Feb. 1864 in Monroe County, MI. They had two daughters, Elizabeth Delina, born 16 Oct. 1865 and Mary Elizabeth, born 1867. They divorced in 1869 or 70, the children remaining with their father. It has been said that she (Mary Amelia) ran away with another man. On 12 Jan 1873, he married a Marilla Bell Woodruff at the 1st. Methodist Church in Saginaw, MI. She died of TB on 21 July 1877. They had no children. On 23 Nov. 1879 he marriel Julia Anna Chrysler Benton in Saginaw, MI. This marriage produced 6 children. Julia Anna was a half-sister of his son-in-law, Thomas W. Baird. He had a farm in Breckenridge, MI (Gratiot County) He was also a "bridge collector" at one time. I believe this would be someone who collected tolls, and Saginaw, MI has many bridges. He died in Saginaw on 23 May 1917, aged 81 years, 7 mo, 6 days. Cause of death being listed as Cardiac Asthma. He is buried in Brady Hill Cemetery, Saginaw, MI.
