A copy of a Veterans' Administration Archives form VAM-541 BOUNTY LAND WARRANT RECORD CARD shows a Durham, Stephen, GRADE Private, LINE New York, WARRANT NUMBER 7057, ACREAGE 100, ISSUED July 30, 1790 to Edward Gumpston, assignee. The form also states: "The information concerning the issuance of warrants carded on this form is found in volumes 2(?) to 4(?) of "Land Warrants Issued Prior to 1800" which are registers of bounty land warrants issued to non-commissioned officers and privates under congressional resolutions of September 16, 1776, and subsequent dates. Other records relative to the applications for warrants appear to have been destroyed in the War Department fire of November 9, 1800. Information concerning warrants surrendered to the Federal Goverment is to be found in General Land Office records in The National Archives."
The following land research was performed by Arthur Carpenter, and was received from Loyde and Cathy Durham of Michigan.
Land Record recorded 28 May 1824 shows Stephen Durham Sr. transferring land to Stephen Jr. (25 acres approx.) Actual transfer took place in 1821. Stephen Sr. and wife Rachel are listed as living in Rodman at that time. (Book H, pg 80.)
Also see land record Book K pg 242 Lewis Co, NY recorded 13 Dec 1827 (I do not know what this land record is, only that it was referenced by the researcher cited above.)
Stephen Sr purchased 50 acres from Wm. Henderson of New York City in 1820 and recorded the deed 22 Aug 1821 (Book G, pg 29).
James S. Durham (probably Jr.) purchased the 25 acres previously transferred to Stephen Jr. (from Stephen Sr.) in 1847 (Book 2, pg 407) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
