a. Note:   Cecile Ella Foster is recorded as "Ella Cecile Foster," in the Foster Genealogy (1899) and King Genealogy (1897) as supplied by her father. Her birth certificate is recorded as Ella Cecile Foster but her marriage and death certificates list her name as "Cecile E. Foster," and "Cecile E. Smith," respectively. My grandmother had always known her mother's name as Cecile, although her mother died when she was only 4 years old. It interesting to note that Cecile's mother, Lucretia Ella, was called Ella; it seems the female members of this family were known by their shorter, more informal, middle names and sometimes used them interchangeably.
