Note: N362 NOTES: My niece Kayla A. thinks William was son of Gen. Charles Coteswoth Pinckney (1746) and Sarah Middleton (1756). This is where her tree diverges from the New York Pinckneys to South Carolina Pinckneys. (I think she may be mistaken absent further proof/sources, since everything I have found shows William Jr. was the son of Willilam Sr. and went back several generations in New York state.) - My Nov. 2014 research finds that my 3rd cousin DNA match has a family tree on ancestry that says William was son of Charles Cotesworth Pinckney (of S.C.), rather than the New York Pinckneys. This is very likely where my niece Kayla got her information, but no sources are provided in this gedcom, so it will have to be checked out indepenedently. None of the other C.C. Pinckney children were born in New York state, so the S.C. connection does not yet make sense to me. Also Sarah Middleton Pinckney would have been only age 16 at the time of William’s birth in 1772, possible but not likely. And the Quaker Settlement Cemetery provides info on different parentage.
Also of note is that the wikipedia article on C.C. Pinckney states he had only 3 children, all daughters. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charles_Cotesworth_Pinckney. Additional search shows these daughters were: Harriott, Maria Henrietta and Eliza Lucas Pinckney. There was also a son (Charles C.) who died at age 7.
I suspect the South Carolina Pinckneys may be cousins or otherwise related but have not yet made the connections. Of note is that Gen. C.C. Pinckney’s son Charles Cotesworth Pinckney (1779) married Eliza Lucas (1780). My family line (New York Pinckneys) have also used the underlined Cotesworth name.
Note: A duplicate FInd-A-Grave entry formerly listed his birthdate as 4/23/1773 and dying at age 84.
